Description

A 2026 study published in JAMA found that intensive lifestyle intervention in adults with prediabetes was associated with a lower long-term risk of multimorbidity. In a follow-up of 1,173 participants over up to 21 years, lifestyle intervention was associated with a 21% lower risk of developing two or more chronic conditions compared with placebo. These findings highlight the potential benefits of sustained dietary modification, regular physical activity and weight management in reducing the broader burden of chronic disease beyond diabetes prevention alone.
