Description

The 2026 AHA/ACC dyslipidemia guideline significantly expands eligibility for statin therapy for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, making additional adults eligible compared with the 2018 guidelines. It promotes earlier risk assessment from age 30 and incorporates long-term cardiovascular risk, revised risk equations and additional high-risk conditions. The recommendations also emphasise early intervention, lifestyle counselling and shared clinician–patient decision-making, although the benefits and cost-effectiveness of treating the newly eligible, predominantly low-risk population require further evaluation.
