Description
Acacia was found to be the most effective suspending agent for preparing a stable calcium carbonate antacid suspension, outperforming gelatin, guar gum, tragacanth, and bentonite. The study tested various concentrations and found that acacia produced optimal stability parameters, including higher viscosity, lower sedimentation volume, and minimal flocculation at 2% concentration. These results indicate that acacia enhances suspension stability by increasing viscosity and reducing sedimentation, consistent with Stokes’ Law. The findings suggest acacia as the preferred suspending agent for calcium carbonate antacid formulations, offering improved product consistency and prolonged reduction in gastric acidity.
