Description

Cefixime is an orally active, third-generation cephalosporin with broad efficacy against gram-positive organisms and selective gram-negative strains, including H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E. coli, and Klebsiella spp. Its activity against Streptococcus pneumoniae is comparatively weaker than other oral cephalosporins. Clinically, cefixime is indicated for otitis media, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, uncomplicated UTIs, and gonorrhea. This chapter provides a detailed review of its spectrum, clinical applications, and therapeutic considerations.
